A PATIENT who recently returned to Scotland from West Africa has tested negative for the Ebola virus at the Western General Hospital.

The person, whose age and gender is not known, was admitted to the Regional Infectious Diseases Unit at the hospital on Monday.

They were screened for possible infections and, as a precaution, kept in isolation.

An NHS Lothian spokesman said: “The patient admitted to the Regional Infectious Diseases Unit at the Western General Hospital earlier today has tested negative for Ebola.

We have robust systems in place to manage patients with suspected infectious diseases and staff follow tested national guidelines.”
