AN elderly woman has had her bank cards and chequebook stolen by a bogus caller.

The 89-year-old victim was at home in Bathgate, West Lothian, when a man called at her address between 9.30am and 11am on Friday offering to do guttering work.

During the incident, the caller was left unattended by the victim after she allowed him entry to take his contact details.

When she returned, the caller had left and the woman discovered that her bank cards and chequebook were missing.

The suspect is described as white, aged between 25 and 35, around five feet ten inches tall and with an average build. He had short brown hair and a clean-shaven complexion.

He was wearing a smart, dark-coloured jacket, smart trousers, black dress shoes and spoke with a local accent.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Lothian and Borders Police immediately on 0131-311 3131.
