THE first major development in Pilton for a generation has been unveiled as housing leaders visited the construction site to survey progress.
Around 34 new council homes in West Pilton Crescent are expected to be completed by October next year as part of the 21st Century Homes project to create 1400 properties for rent across the Capital. The project has seen a total of 87 new homes already created in the south of the city, with construction of a further 715 in Pennywell set to begin under plans to regenerate the north of the city.
The new West Pilton Crescent development includes 31 flats and three houses, all of which will be available for rent.
Improvements are also planned to upgrade the grounds of neighbouring Northview Court, which will benefit from an improved residents’ garden and a renovated play area.
Housing vice-convenor Councillor Cammy Day said it was an “exciting project” for Pilton that would “enhance” the local landscape.
He said: “We are committed to investing in homes, whether this involves upgrading existing ones or building new, modern and energy efficient properties like these.
“The mix of flats and houses on West Pilton Crescent will make them accessible to families and individuals, which will help us to meet the ever increasing demand for council homes.”
