A MAN who died after he was hit by a taxi has been named by police.

Stuart Gillies, 22, from Inverness, was struck shortly after midnight on Sunday in Old Dalkeith Road near Ferniehill Drive. He suffered serious injuries and died on Tuesday afternoon at the Western General Hospital.

The road was closed for about four hours after the accident to allow police to examine the scene.

Officers are still seeking information about what happened and are asking anyone who was in the area at the time to contact them.

A force spokesman said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who can assist with our inquiries. Motorists or pedestrians who remember seeing the man before the collision are asked to contact police immediately.”

Officers want to speak to a male doctor who was passing by and gave medical treatment to the man before the ambulance arrived at the scene.
