THE deputy chief constable of Lothian and Borders Police will address a vigil against hate crimes carried out against members of the gay community.

DCC Steve Allen will be among the speakers at the Vigil against Hate event, organised by the National Union of Students (NUS) Scotland.

It will be held outside the City Chambers to show a united stance against hate crime in all its forms, and remember those who have lost their lives because of it.

Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill, Nathan Sparling, the NUS Scotland Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) officer, and Bruce Fraser, chief executive of Gay Men’s Health, are also set to speak.
