A police investigation has been launched after claims that teenagers – as young as 13 – absconded from an Edinburgh council-run home to take part in a drink-fuelled party.

Shocked neighbours called police on Sunday night after seeing a half-naked girl swigging vodka from a bottle in the Oxgangs area.

Four girls – between the ages of 13 and 15 – were said to be from the nearby children’s home.

One local said: “ My neighbours were standing in the street looking up at one of the houses. It was clear a party was going on.

“I went down to see what was going on and spotted a young girl who was naked from the waist down drinking vodka.

“She was standing at the window for all to see.”

He said a number of boys left the house before police and workers from the home arrived

A police spokesman said: “We can confirm our officers attended an incident at an address in the Oxgangs area around 9pm on Sunday following reports of a disturbance there involving a number of young people.

“We are now investigating the matter with partners in health and social work to establish the full circumstances of the incident.”

Edinburgh City Council declined to comment.
