POLICE are monitoring 86 registered sex offenders in the Lothians deemed to be at a “high risk” of re-offending, they have revealed.
Official figures showed officers were also monitoring four other offenders who are considered to be “very high risk”.
New figures showed that a total of 536 registered sex offenders (RSOs) were living in the Lothians as of March this year.
Along with the high-risk cases, 236 were deemed “medium risk” while 189 were “low risk”.
Another 22 had assessments pending.
A team of 19 police officers are tasked with assessing and monitoring all of the RSOs in the force area.
Between last April and March, officers carried out 1994 homes visits to see RSOs to monitor their behaviour. The four “very high risk” RSOs were visited a combined total of 258 times during the year.
