AN investigation is under way after a man was stabbed in a flat on the Royal Mile.
Police cordoned off parts of the street after the incident yesterday morning.
A 53-year-old man was taken to hospital, where he is in a serious condition, while police launched an appeal for witnesses.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Police are investigating following a serious assault on a 53-year-old man.
“The incident happened around 7.10am on Friday at an address in the Canongate.
“The victim has been taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, where he is in a serious condition.
“Inquiries are ongoing into this attack and anyone who can assist officers with their investigation is asked to contact police immediately.”
