Police have swooped on a house in the outskirts of the city after a man went missing from the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

Officers rushed to an address on Fernieside Drive where the patient - believed to be considered a high-risk to himself - was found at around 4.30pm. It is understood he was suffering from a cut to the head.

One resident, who asked not to be named, reported seeing eight to ten police cars surrounding the home before a man was taken out by officers “covered in blood.”

A police spokeswoman said: “Police in Edinburgh undertook a search of the Southside of the city today after a 20-year-old man went missing from the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

“A short time later the man was found at an address in the Fernieside area and is now receiving further medical treatment.”
