DEPUTY First Minister Nicola Sturgeon was immediately named the bookies’ favourite to replace Alex Salmond.
Ladbrokes said Ms Sturgeon was 1/2 on for the top job. Other candidates included Derek Mackay, Alex Neil, Mike Russell, John Swinney and Humza Yousaf, all tied at 10/1, while Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill was a 20/1 outsider.
Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “Following Salmond’s departure the position looks like Sturgeon’s to lose. Should she miss out it looks like it will become a close contest.”
