MSP Angela Constance has welcomed results showing the education system is making good progress on class sizes.

The new figures show that primary one, two and three class sizes are now smaller, and that 358 schools have been rebuilt or refurbished.

West Lothian alone spent almost £270,000 on renovations during 2009-10.

Ms Constance, Livingston MSP, said: “These figures show that the experience Scotland’s children have at school is improving across the board, especially in West Lothian.

“Children, teachers and parents can now see the benefit of smaller class sizes, and that benefit will be felt all the way through school. Following the refurbishments, more pupils are receiving an education in better quality school buildings.”
