EDINBURGH Central SNP MSP Marco Biagi has called on council chiefs to act on the Capital’s failing air quality standards.
In a motion tabled at the Scottish Parliament, he voiced concern at the growing number of streets failing minimum air quality standards, including the Grassmarket, Easter Road and Gorgie Road, as well as Princes Street and the Royal Mile.
He said: “These targets are set for a reason and over the long term air quality can have a real effect on health. When the city council have put their minds to it they’ve been able to bring down levels of pollutants like nitrogen dioxide, but others are still a problem.
“It’s important the council builds on the work they’ve already done and turns their proposals into firm action.”
