A TEENAGER has appeared in court charged with starting a number of fires in Portobello within the last week.

Jamie Corrigan, 17, appeared in private before Sheriff James Scott at a hearing at the city’s sheriff court yesterday.

Mr Corrigan, whose address has been given as Edinburgh, made no plea or declaration to a total of six charges.

Prosecutors allege that he deliberately started the fires at addresses in the Portobello area earlier this week.

Mr Corrigan was remanded in custody and is expected to make another court appearance in connection with the allegations in the next eight days.
