EDINBURGH Castle and much of the Royal Mile was plunged into darkness this afternoon after a power blackout.
The castle, Scotland’s most-visited paying attraction, was left without electricity shortly before 3pm.
Several businesses in the nearby Royal Mile were forced to close their doors.
A spokeswoman for Historic Scotland confirmed the castle had been left without power.
Scottish Power said electricity was restored to most users within 15 minutes but apologised for any inconvenience caused.
She said: “The power was out following a fault feeding from an electricity substation in the Cowgate area.”
