The Edinburgh Prison Officers Social Club will reopen tomorrow, following a £50,000 refurbishment after a devastating flash flood earlier this year.
The community centre, next to HMP Edinburgh, has taken months to repair since the flood during the summer.
The ribbon cutting will be done by MSP Gordon McDonald, a supporter of the club, and Stephen Kennedy, whose late father Ian was one of the original officers who started it.
The centre has been in a dispute with the Scottish Prison Service in recent years over plans to sell the land. However, the club said the refurbishment is a major boost.
Club chairman, Colin Brown, said: “In the weeks that have followed [the flooding] the true spirit of the members and local tradesmen has once again amazed us all.
“The club, which is still under threat of closure from the Scottish Prison Service, is now once again restored to its former glory, ready to provide a safe social environment for its members and the many community groups who use the club’s facilities.”
