Visitors to the city centre might have been forgiven for thinking Christmas had come early yesterday as hundreds of people dressed as Santa Claus to take part in a charity fun run through Princes Street Gardens.
The annual Great Edinburgh Santa Family Fun Run & Walk 2014, this year sponsored by Scotmid Co-operative, again saw an impressive turnout of Santas, all suited up and ready to race.
And in mild conditions – a welcome change from the freezing temperatures of recent days – they took to the paths around the park to complete the sponsored race, with a warm-up session held at the Ross Bandstand before the event got under way at 11am.
The Santa Run aims to raise funds for When You Wish Upon a Star, which grants the “wishes” of children throughout Scotland suffering from life-threatening illnesses.
As well as raising money for a deserving cause, the event also saw prizes up for grabs, with judges awarding competitors with the title of Best Decorated Push Chair, Best Dressed Dog for Christmas, Best Individual Fundraiser and ‘Best Fundraising Company Team.
