THESE days parents face £1500 in council fees if they want to close their street off and make it ‘safe’ for their kids to play in. But back in 1952 Johnston Street in Leith was closed to traffic after 4pm so kids could play, and regardless of ‘designated’ play areas, Edinburgh’s kids have always managed to make space to have fun.
