A HORSE rider was seriously injured after being thrown into a tree when her horse was spooked by a dog.

Police said the dog ran at two horses on a path in the Gore Glen area of Gorebridge, on Thursday at around 1.30pm.

They bolted and one of the women was thrown from her horse and hit a tree.

She is being treated at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for leg, pelvic and internal injuries.

Police are keen to trace the female owner of the dog, which could be a greyhound. The woman is described as white, around 40 years old, 5ft 6, slim, and has long pink or red hair.

Sergeant Stuart Aitchison said: “The horses have been distressed by the dog who continued to chase one of the horses after the rider was dismounted.

“Both horses were returned to their stables without any visible injuries and we are eager to trace owner of the dog.

“I would appeal for anyone who witnessed the incident.”
