For one Musselburgh hairdressers, the Evening News’ Salon of the Year competition is an all-round family affair.

That’s after owners and sisters Jacqueline Quinn, 33, and Debra Mains, 34, decided to take the plunge and set up Eivissa together five years ago.

It wasn’t long before their little sister and beauty therapist, Jaime-Louise McDonald, 26, also joined the business which has beaten off thousands of entrants make our final ten.

The trio have been working round the clock for the final push for votes and said all their clients had become like family as Eivissa is the only salon in the town.

“We have only been trading for five and a half years so even to get to the top ten is an amazing achievement,” Mrs Quinn said. “We do nails and beauty as well as hair so you have got everything under one roof and all the clients are behind us.

“All our clients keep saying to us that it has a really friendly atmosphere and when they come in they feel so welcome.

“We befriend our clients and they just love coming in – they might be feeling down in the dumps but they leave smiling because they always have such a good time.”

Mrs Quinn, who has “never looked back” since becoming a hairdresser 18 years ago, said it was a shock to find out the salon was in the final 40, let alone the final ten.

“We were really shocked – it was just amazing for such a small salon,” she said. “Now that we’re in the final ten everyone has been sharing it on Facebook.

“I would like to thank all the clients that have been behind us and supported us – we have got amazing, loyal clients and I could not wish for better clients who are supporting us in the competition. “Every single one of us love our job and we take it really seriously.

“If we won I think I would feel quite emotional and really proud.”

The sisters’ mum, Jacqueline Mains, 52, said she would be first in the queue for the “massive party” they will be having if they win.
