FOR someone who thrives on cold weather, Santa Claus has been a bit unlucky this year as he attempts to bring joy to Lothians youngsters.
For the fourth time in five years, his much-anticipated trip along the Union Canal has been cancelled – because it is feared it will be frozen over again.
The popular trips on the waterway at Broxburn will not happen this year.
Organisers said they did not want to find themselves in the same position as previous years where money raised and presents all had to be sent back.
However, the 19-40 Union Canal Society did not rule out the prospect of bringing the event back next year.
Forecasters have already said the Lothians face a severe winter, with predictions of miserable weather and below freezing temperatures.
