Organisers behind the Edinburgh International Science Festival have pledged to provide training to coaches if the city is successful in winning its bid for a new athletics village.
An announcement over which city will host the £30 million National Performance Centre for Sport is expected as early as next week.
Stirling and Dundee are also in the running. Heriot-Watt University will become the centre’s new home if Edinburgh is chosen.
Training in sports science communication will be delivered to aspiring coaches and sports professionals out of the centre under a partnership agreed between the city council and festival organisers.
The agreement was announced with Heriot-Watt hosting a two-day conference for top sports coaches and club leaders starting tomorrow.
Delegates will include Paralympic gold medallist David Andrew Smith. Club and coaching workshops will run as part of the major conference.
