Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe has said he hopes the UK stays together, while Lord of the Rings star Elijah Wood has told Scots to “go for it”.
The latest interventions in the debate, billed as Potter v Frodo, have set social media alight.
US actor Wood, famous for his role as Frodo, made the comments when he attended the Edinburgh International Film Festival premiere of his new film Set Fire to the Stars.
When asked what he thought about Scottish independence, he said said: “The independence of Scotland? Go for it, man!”
Radcliffe meanwhile said he hopes the UK stays together, echoing the stance taken by JK Rowling.
The 24-year-old actor said: “I can totally see why some people in Scotland might want independence. I personally like the UK being how it is.
“But it’s also not up to me; I don’t get a say in the future of Scotland and that’s fair. I’m sure they’ll make the right decision.”
