SIR Sean Connery is playing a leading role in the battle against a major redevelopment on his luxury Bahamas island home.
The 83-year-old Edinburgh actor is at the forefront of a revolt by 100 residents over plans by wealthy Canadian neighbour Peter Nygard to redevelop a Mayan-themed compound.
The group claims that the plans threaten the ecological system around the Clifton Bay area of New Providence island.
They say that work carried out already has gone ahead without the required permits and permissions.
After filing a legal complaint the objectors are calling for a judicial review into the project. As well as the building work, the tycoon also wants to develop neighbouring land.
Sir Sean joined the island’s Save the Bays movement last year.
