MI6 has investigated death threats made against Lothian speed skater Elise Christie in the wake of her Winter Olympics heartbreak, her mum has revealed.
The 23-year-old suffered online abuse after being disqualified from three separate events in Sochi last week.
Her mum Angela, who travelled from the family home in Livingston to support her daughter in Russia, said the secret service had been drafted in to probe the messages.
Nurse Angela, 47, said: “The big concern was the death threats. But that’s over and been investigated by MI6. They’ve got to treat any security threat as a problem.”
