A SPECIALIST medical suite for the victims of sex crimes has been opened in Livingston.
The facility is designed to make victims, including children, more comfortable by allowing them to be examined and interviewed in the same location.
Previously, victims of sexual crime were taken to either St John’s Hospital or the Vega building in Edinburgh, with often long waiting times.
The suite, based at the West Lothian Civic Centre, also offers anonymity as access is provided through a specially created corridor away from the main entrance.
Detective Inspector Matt Paden said: “The specialist examination suite will not only hopefully improve confidence in reporting, but also help us in gathering as much vital evidence as possible to assist us in successfully prosecuting perpetrators.”
