The West End of the city was sealed off yesterday after a woman threatened to jump from a building.

Shandwick Place was closed in both directions from around 10am, causing serious traffic disruption.

The incident came just two-days after a man fell to his death from the Scott Monument on Princes Street.

It was revealed last week that staff at the landmark will receive suicide awareness training following the incident on Thursday.

City council bosses said workers would be shown how to spot signs of distress and given advice on persuading individuals not to harm themselves.

Previous incidents have led to calls to improve security on the 172-year-old structure.

It was closed off around three times last year while police responded to similar incidents, with traffic disrupted in the area and streets cordoned off.
