A FORMER classical singer is fine-tuning a new career by opening a dedicated school for wine lovers.

Justin Martindale is launching Lothian Wine School in Edinburgh to offer evening tastings, Saturday events and courses for beginners and experts alike.

Mr Martindale, 28, studied music at Leeds University and worked as a professional singer at Ripon Cathedral for three years before deciding to turn his passion for wine into a career.

After working at Majestic Wine in St John’s Wood and Notting Hill for two years, he moved to Scotland and took up an assistant manager position at Majestic’s Giffnock store, before becoming manager of the Dundee branch.

He said: “One of the things I really loved about working for Majestic is talking about wine. We have people with all different levels of knowledge, but they all share a passion for wine and I really enjoyed kindling their interest, so when an opportunity to turn that into a career came around, I jumped at it.

“I’m really excited about opening up our new school in Edinburgh.”
