A SERIES of major gas works are to be carried out in the Ferry Road area of north Edinburgh over the next six months as part of a major upgrade of the network.

Scotland Gas Networks will begin work on Monday, October 29, with traffic diversions in place to compensate. Working five days a week between 8am and 4.15pm, and with weekend works when required, engineers will renew 1750m of gas mains in the area.

The gas board said it would ensure the project is completed as quickly as possible and that it was mindful that the area is largely residential.

Phase one commences on Ferry Road, at Madeira Street, up to the junction of
Newhaven Road. This phase will last for around six to
eight weeks. Phase two works will commence at the junction of Newhaven Road heading west towards Bonar Place, taking approximately ten weeks, with a break for the festive period.

Phase three will include Newhaven Road, between Ferry Road and Pitt Street. This phase will last for approximately four weeks, and phase four will include Newhaven Road, between Bonnington Avenue and Stewartfield.

In addition there will be some works on West Bowling Green Street.

This phase will last for approximately six weeks.
