A CITY sports shop that has been at its current location for 30 years could be set to move after its owner decided to lease out the premises.

George Neil, 57, said he was planning to move Bruntsfield Sports, in Bruntsfield Place, to Morningside.

Traders in the area have recently expressed anger at the growing number of chain stores, including Sainsbury’s, setting up shop.

But Mr Neil said he had received applications from a number of independent parties interested in leasing the site.

He said: “Most of the applications I have received have been from independents but I’m not ruling anything out.

“It’s always been my intention to move and lease the premises because it’s a prime site. Negotiations with potential leaseholders are still ongoing but I would hope to have things tied up by the end of the summer.”

He added: “We have been here so long – you end up running out of ideas about how to change a shop but if you move, it gives you fresh impetus and a fresh perspective.”
