SCOTLAnd’s biggest energy firm is to cut bills by 4.1 per cent – but not until winter is over.

SSE said the price cut, in response to lower wholesale costs, would save a typical household £28 a year.

But critics said the company – which made £1.55 billion profits last year – was being cynical by not implementing the lower charges until April.

Energy expert Stephen Murray, of price comparison website Moneysupermarket.com, said: “This is another example of energy companies failing to play fair with customers.”
