TWO unemployed men thought they could make a killing by stealing scrap metal from an old abbatoir.
Nicholas Middleton and David Selkirk got into the empty building and took copper piping with a scrap value of £400.
Livingston Sheriff Court heard the accused were spotted by people walking past the abandoned ABP building in Bathgate, West Lothian.
Catherine Knowles, prosecuting, said all the copper had been recovered.
Middleton, 33, from Armadale, and Selkirk, 25, from Livingston, both of West Lothian, yesterday pleaded guilty to theft.
Middleton was fined £120 and Selkirk was fined £150.
