A STUNNED occupant caught a thief in the act and held her until police arrived.
The woman was snared after waking a couple as she tried to raid a home in St Baldreds Road, North Berwick, last week.
After hearing noises, one of the residents managed to detain the 40-year-old housebreaker until officers turned up to arrest her.
She has since been charged and made an appearance at Haddington Sheriff Court.
The arrest was one of seven made over the last couple of weeks by police running Operation RAC – a crackdown on housebreaking in the Lothians.
Chief Inspector Colin Brown, local area commander for East Lothian, said: “The public can rest assured that enforcement activity will continue as Operation RAC looks to bring more offenders to justice.
“In addition, this initiative is also aimed at preventing these crimes occurring in the first instance and our communities are urged to ensure they have appropriate security in place.”
