A PETITION to introduce a whistleblowing hotline for council employees to report wrongdoing and mismanagement will feed into plans for a summer unveiling of a new informer service.
The petitioners – which gained 515 valid signatures – called for an independent hotline to be created that could be accessed only by senior councillors at city chambers. They highlighted the property repairs and Mortonhall scandals as recent evidence for why such a hotline was essential.
The petitions committee vowed to note last Thursday’s deputation.
It is understood some of the suggestions would help “flavour” proposals for the possible introduction of a local authority hotline this summer.
