Dignitaries from France and Scotland were set to gather at St Mary’s Cathedral today to mark the final day of the three-month long exhibition of the Battle of Prestonpans Tapestry.

The Battle Tapestry depicts the early part of the campaign of Bonnie Prince Charlie in 1745 and was inspired by the famous 11th century Norman Bayeux Tapestry.

As it leaves St Mary’s Cathedral after a hugely successful three months, plans are being made for it to be displayed in France in the spring.

Edinburgh Lord Provost, George Grubb and Provost of St Mary’s, Dr Graham Forbes, were set to be joined by the French Consul General, Pierre-Alain Coffinier and Lydie Poulet, a councillor from the town of Bayeux.
