A TEENAGER caused almost £2000 of damage when he poured detergent into a showpiece fountain.

The prank backfired on Jordan Picken, 17, who today appeared in court and pleaded guilty to vandalism.

Livingston Sheriff Court heard that the operators of Livingston Designer Outlet were left with a £1860 bill to have the fountain and its moving metal water sculpture feature restored.

Picken, of Etive Walk in Livingston, admitted pouring detergent or a similar substance into the fountain on October 13 last year.

Sentence was deferred for six months, with Sheriff John Halley warning the unemployed teenager to stay out of trouble until his next appearance in court.

Sheriff Halley told Picken: “It appears to me from the facts placed before me that this was a stupid prank. I accept that in acting as stupidly as you did, you probably didn’t anticipate that it would cost so much to rectify this water feature.

“But you yourself can see – and no doubt are surprised and shocked by – the cost that’s been said to rectify the damage that you caused.”
