MORE than 100 council house tenants have benefited from a £600,000 heating upgrade.
New gas connections and more efficient gas central heating systems have been installed in 100 houses within the Gateside area of Kirkliston.
It is estimated that the improvements could save tenants around £500 a year.
A further 107 homeowners in Kirkliston who have purchased their homes from the council are also set to benefit as they have been offered a connection to the gas supply for a significantly discounted rate.
Councillor Norman Work said: “This could not have come at a better time for many families as in the current economic climate some people are finding it very hard to pay their bills.”
Fiona Alexander, who lives in Maitland Hog Lane, said: “The new central heating system has been great.”
