NEARLY £6000 of equipment including engines, fuel and an inflatable dinghy have been stolen from boats in the Lothians since the start of this year.
A Yamaha engine worth £1000 was taken in May, while a radio valued at £500 was stolen during the previous month.
A canoe, an anvil and an echo sounder were also stolen during the 13 incidents recorded in Lothian and Borders this year.
Last year, boat owners reported 23 thefts with the stolen property including five engines, fishing rods and reels, a fire extinguisher, a sail, wooden oars, a radar and a telescope.
A total of 28 thefts from boats were reported in 2010, with thieves making off with items including wet suits.
