THE family of Theresa Riggi, the mother who stabbed her three children to death in an Edinburgh flat, has said she is finally at peace.

The American-born music teacher, who killed eight-year-old twins Austin and Luke and Cecilia, five, in Slateford in August 2010, was found dead at Rampton maximum security hospital in Nottinghamshire on Monday.

Detectives were today quoted saying Riggi, 49, who had a history of illness, had not taken her own life.

She is believed to have suffered from an eating disorder and stomach ulcers. Last year she was too frail to travel back to Scotland to attend the trial of a woman accused of slashing her with a razor blade in Cornton Vale prison.

A priest, speaking on behalf of Riggi’s family in California, said: “They feel a sense of relief. They now believe their sister is not being tormented.”
