The John Deere 6930 tractor, which had been secured overnight, was found to have been moved the following morning and was missing two wheels.
A police spokesman said the theft at Lawhead Farm in Kirknewton was “very unusual” and that the perpetrators would have fled with the stolen wheels in a vehicle. The wheels are valued at “several thousand pounds each”.
“If any retailers are approached by individuals looking to sell these items on they should get in touch with our officers,” said a spokesman.
