A chemical spill at a recycling centre in Midlothian is being investigated after reports three workers had been affected.

Midlothian council has confirmed it is investigating the incident at the Stobhill household Waste Recycling Centre in Gorebridge just before 10am this morning.

Reports suggested three workers had been taken ill at the site, and the depot has been closed.

A Midlothian Council spokeswoman, said: “We are currently working with the fire, ambulance and police on an incident at Stobhill depot.”

“Due to public safety measures Stobhill Depot and Stobhill Road are currently closed. Investigations are underway.”

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Police in Midlothian were called to Stobhill household recycling centre at about 10:00, following a spill of hazardous material.

“Police are currently assisting the fire service in managing the scene.”
