CELEBRATIONS will get under way tonight with 35,000 people expected to turn out for the start of the Hogmanay festivities.

An estimated 8000 torchbearers, led by the Up Helly Aa Vikings from Shetland and more than 100 pipers, will be accompanied by 20,000 spectators, as they illuminate the city streets from George IV Bridge to Calton Hill.

The Procession leaves George IV Bridge at 7pm with torches already sold out.

It will be followed by a light and fireworks display.
