ALMOST 18,000 people used the trams on their first weekday in operation.
After the launch weekend, when nearly 40,000 climbed aboard, yesterday’s 17,800 total offered a better indication of normal passenger numbers.
Edinburgh Trams general manager Tom Norris said: “We’re delighted with these early figures and it’s very pleasing to see people using trams as part of their daily commute or routine.
“Welcoming 40,000 over launch weekend was fantastic but to see nearly 18,000 on a Monday was even more encouraging.
“It’s still early days and we’ll see fluctuations I’m sure. Our focus at this early stage remains on providing a quality service, ironing out any teething issues and laying the foundations of a solid, dependable service that becomes part of daily life.”
