PLANS for tourist trips by steam train on the new Borders railway could disrupt scheduled services because most of the line is single track, it was claimed today.

First Minister Alex Salmond unveiled plans for a “steam train experience” up to three times a week after the line opens in September next year.

But experts warned the move could have a “severe impact” on the fledgling service on the 30-mile route between Edinburgh and Tweedbank, near Galashiels.
