MOTORISTS have been warned to expect delays after overnight closures of the Sheriffhall roundabout began.
The A720 bypass between Sheriffhall and the Old Craighall Roundabout is closing overnight this weekend and at the end of next week as part of work on the new Borders Railway.
The temporary closures are part of switch-over work to enable a major two-lane diversion about 200 metres east of Sheriffhall roundabout to take traffic while a tunnel is excavated for the rail link.
The speed limit will be slashed from 70mph to 40mph on the alternate route, which will be used for at least eight months while the key stretch of bypass is closed. The new tunnel will allow the old 35-mile Waverley route from Edinburgh to Tweedbank, near Galashiels, to be reopened. The G£294 million rail link is expected to start in summer 2015.
The planned closures are:
Friday 06/09/13 19:30 to 11:00 Saturday 07/09/13 - east bound
Saturday 07/09/13 19:30 to 12:00 Sunday 08/09/13 - east bound
