OVErHEAD power cables have now gone live along the entire length of the tram route in a move dubbed “a significant milestone” towards
completion.

The last remaining cabling to be electrified – between the Bankhead tram stop and York Place – was switched on yesterday, meaning the route is almost ready for action.

The 750-volt DC power lines are around 18 feet above the tracks and do not pose a danger to pedestrians and motorists or to those living and working in the vicinity of the tramway.

Transport convener Lesley Hinds said: “This is another significant milestone as we push towards completion of the project and prepare for testing.

“At ground level, the live wires will go unnoticed but anyone who needs to carry out works within a ten-metre vicinity needs to be aware of important safety measures.

“We’re urging residents and businesses to read the guidance and approach us to agree a safe way of working.”
