SEVERAL vehicles were left stranded while other traffic slowed to a steady crawl after yesterday’s sudden downpour caused flash flooding at Cramond Brig and elsewhere in the Capital.

Lengthy queues quickly developed on routes travelling in and out of the city centre as the dramatic deluge left drivers stunned after the recent soaring temperatures.

The potent lunchtime thunder and lightning storm saw half an inch of rain fall on the Capital in just an hour, weather experts said.

More rain is expected to fall in Edinburgh today – but although forecasters have predicted frequent showers, they say it will not be anything like as heavy as yesterday.
