MOTORISTS have been warned of potentially difficult driving conditions in the Lothians today.

Police say motorists should be on the look-out for flurries of snow, particularly on higher ground.

High winds are expected in East Lothian and the Borders.

There was an accident on the A7 by Stow which has been affected by black ice. Nobody was injured in the collision.

Snow ploughs and gritters have been working through the night to clear routes in other parts of the country.

The snow gates on the A82 Tyndrum to Glencoe road have been shut and police said conditions on the A86 Spean Bridge to Roy Bridge road were poor. Weathermen say a band of rain, sleet and snow is forecast for the Lothians today.

A spokeswoman for BEAR Scotland, which maintains Scotland’s trunk roads, said: “Snow continues to make driving conditions difficult particularly on high sections of the A82, A83, A85, A87 and A9.”
