COMPANIES are set to reclaim millions of pounds from the city council after making contributions towards sections of the tram route which have never been built.

Miller Homes is the first of the developers who made payments for building next to the tram route who will now get some of the money back.

It paid £433,131, but under a compromise deal will be handed back half the amount – £221,565 – with another quarter going to pay for apprenticeships and the rest retained by the council for other transport projects.

Planning convener Ian Perry said: “We will be liaising with other parties who have paid tram contributions relating to the Roseburn corridor [Granton] section opf the route to advise them of the settlement agreed with Miller, inviting them to approach the council.”
