A PEDESTRIAN is in hospital with severe head injuries after being struck by a car on Palmerston Place.

The black Vauxhall Corsa hit the pedestrian and a cyclist before coming to rest against a set of traffic lights around 4.30pm this afternoon.

The pedestrian suffered serious head injuries and was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment. The cyclist is believed to be uninjured.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Police in Edinburgh are currently in attendance following a road traffic collision in Palmerston Place.

“Enquiries are currently ongoing and a 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.”

“Road closures are in place between Grosvenor Street and Chester Street. The public are thanked for their patience at this time.”

Witnesses to the incident are being urged to contact Police Scotland on 101.
