POLICE are investigating the death of a man on a railway line near Kirknewton Station in West Lothian.
It is thought he may have been hit by a train at around 10.20am this morning.
British Transport Police and Network Rail are conducting enquiries at the scene.
It is understood the rail service has experienced some disruption due to the fatality which was further compounded by morning flooding.
A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: “BTP officers were called to the line near Kirknewton station at 10.21am on Monday, December 30, following a report of a man’s body on the line.
“The man’s injuries are consistent with being hit by a train and enquiries are ongoing to establish his identity.
“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a full report will be submitted to the local Procurator Fiscal.”
